Habit Curation- A how to guide for a health 2025
After such a busy year, my focus this year is on creating healthy habits to support me when
life inevitably gets hectic again. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that it’s absolutely
okay—and necessary—to carve out time for myself. To help stay on track, I invested in the
nicest diary I’ve ever owned. It’s not just a diary; it’s a little self-care companion.
It includes a self-care menu where I can jot down things that help me rest, recover, and
replenish my energy for my mind, body, and soul. The best part? It’s broken down into 10-,
30-, and 60-minute options, so no matter how much time I have, I can choose something
nourishing. There’s also a Habit Curation section with a weekly habit tracker. Every time I
open my diary, I see that little reminder to prioritise myself, and it makes all the difference.
Recently, I’ve been listening to Dr. Chatterjee’s podcast, Feel Better, Live More. His advice
on habits really stuck with me: start small. Focus on one habit for seven days, and by the end
of the week, you not only build momentum but also reinforce trust in yourself. I started
before the new year with movement, and it felt almost effortless because I was at the beach,
in the water every other day (if not daily). I added walks, stretches, or light weight training,
and by mid-January, movement became part of my routine.
What really helped was not setting rigid time limits. Some days, I’d spend 10 minutes
moving; other days, much longer—it depended on what felt right. For example, this morning,
I only had 20 minutes, so I chose wall Pilates and shoulder strengthening. Later, I’ll take the
dog for a sunset walk.
Other habits I’m working on this year include reading for pleasure and meditating daily. On a
weekly basis, I want to make meal planning and snacks easier for the family. My goal is to try
a new snack recipe each week, figuring out which ones are favourites so I can rotate them.
Last year, I realized how poorly I was fuelling myself—often skipping meals during busy
workdays. Now, I’m more intentional about eating well, and the difference in my energy and
clarity is incredible.
Creating habits is such a powerful way to shift your focus back to self-care, especially if it’s
been lacking in your life. It’s not about perfection but about consistency, kindness to yourself,
and building a foundation that supports you, no matter what the year brings.
