Rosacea Uncovered
When we talk about rosacea, we are talking about more than just redness. Rosacea is a common skin condition that is identified by not only redness and inflammation, but also an over production of capillaries, thinning of the epidermis, and depending on the severity, swelling, papules, and pustules. Despite what you may have heard, there is no quick fix or miracle cure for rosacea. Managing this condition requires patience, dedication, and of course your Talking Beauty corneotherapist to guide you every step of the way!
Rosacea is an extremely individual skin condition as triggers can vary widely from client to client. What we do know is that rosacea is an external presentation of an internal problem. In fact, around 50% of rosacea sufferers have also been found to have SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth).
We know that there is an intrinsic link between your gut health and your skin, and this is even more apparent when it comes to rosacea. Digestive disorders, vitamin and essential fatty acid deficiencies, spicy foods, and alcohol are just a few of the possible triggers for a rosacea flare up. Environmental factors such as stress, heat, sun exposure, and perfumes can also cause rosacea to flare. This is why identifying your own personal trigger is so important when it comes to rosacea management and although this can take some further digging (we have an amazing naturopath we will refer you to), it will make the journey ahead so much clearer.
When it comes to treating rosacea topically, prescriptions can vary depending on the presentation however one thing will always remain the same across the board: LOW & SLOW. Rosacea skins can often be sensitive and reactive so we will never introduce too many products at once. Our main focus as corneotherapists will always be addressing the strength and function of your skin barrier. You will likely see us discussing essential fatty acids (both topical and internal) as they play a vital role in not only strengthening your skin cells, but also lowering inflammation levels. Ingredients such as zinc, niacinamide, and vitamins A, C, and E are all extremely beneficial for a rosacea skin but you likely wonโt see these ingredients in your prescription until we have repaired the barrier and indentified triggers.
Treating rosacea is about more than just calming and soothing a hot, angry skin. Itโs about delving further and supporting from the inside to ensure that flare ups are minimized, the barrier is strong, and clients can feel happy and confident in their own skin.
